This project involved a poster exhibition in the Dom Church in Utrecht. Erna Flokstra was the point of contact from the Dom Church. From June 2 to November 11, it was about 900 years of city rights in Utrecht, and the Dom Church focused on the refugees who found shelter in Utrecht during those 900 years. Erna had summarized this information in a reader and asked our project group of 6 to design 12 posters that were then exhibited in the Dom Church on November 4 (2022). The posters consisted of 1 title board, 2 text boards and 9 visual translations to the different movements. After discussing who wanted to do what, I was given the opportunity to work on the title board and the poster for the Iranian refugees.

I preferred the title board because I wanted to work with typography in this project, which is something I want to work with more. After these decisions we all started researching. Sometimes together sometimes individually. Every week we met at 10 am and then always at school. Here we discussed design possibilities and each other's sketches and gave each other feedback. This took more time than initially agreed upon. Fortunately, Erna gave very good feedback on our designs at the two meetings she attended. I am very satisfied with what I came up with, it just needs some final adjustments.

For the title board I had to do less research than for the poster about the Iranian refugees. I spent two days walking through Utrecht until I came up with the idea of using a map in my illustration, because I was constantly navigating myself. For the poster for the Iranian refugees, I started watching documentaries, listening to podcasts and watching a lot of movies. It soon became clear to me that the term “the long arm of Tehran” became the symbol in my illustration. I wanted to depict the city that people are fleeing from, with the current ayatollah looking over them, and an arm reaching out to the refugees. The bit in the right corner was still a big question mark because what was I supposed to depict here? Then the news came on that a woman was horribly punished on the streets of Iran for not wearing a headscarf, and I wanted to incorporate this story into the image.
